LIONS AND RHINOS AND GIRAFFES, OH MY! AND ELEPHANTS TOO!

This was our first real view of Mons on the day we arrived. We had directions to the archives and there we met up with Toon who lead us to our apartment. That large tower-like building in the background is very near our apartment. What surprised us were the ring of animal statutes all around the archives. They are all life size and are all "headed" toward the mall which is just a small distance from the archives.

Giraffes and zebras.
Someone had painted the mouths of the lions red, so they looked like they had just had a delicious meal of one of those zebras. There is a large family of elephants with some baby elephants holding onto the tails of their mothers. Unfortunately, someone had broken off the tusks on some of the elephants and the tail on the one that the baby is holding onto.
Though it wasn't raining the day we took these pictures, it actually rains so much in Mons that we expected this parade of animals to be led by a statue of Noah... it isn't!

In America they have mall rats, but in Mons they have a veritable zoo of mall animals.
